Tower Hill Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, clients and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. We recognise that professional moving services, including home and office removals, present particular risks relating to manual handling, transport, working in and around properties and the use of equipment. This policy sets out how we manage those risks in a systematic and responsible way.
The aim of this Health and Safety policy is to prevent injury, ill health and damage arising from our work. We will identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate control measures for all aspects of our removal operations, whether packing, loading, transporting, unloading or carrying out associated services at client premises. Health and safety considerations are integral to our planning, supervision and delivery of every move.
Senior management at Tower Hill Removals has overall responsibility for ensuring that robust health and safety arrangements are in place and effectively implemented. This includes providing adequate resources, clear procedures and competent supervision to manage risks throughout our service area. Management will ensure that health and safety duties are assigned, understood and monitored, and that this policy is reviewed and kept up to date with relevant legislation and industry guidance.
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must follow all safety procedures, use equipment correctly, cooperate with training, report hazards, near misses or incidents without delay and refrain from any actions that could endanger themselves, colleagues or the public. Every member of the team plays a vital role in maintaining safe working practices on removal sites and in vehicles.
We will carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for our activities, including household moves, office relocations, specialist item handling and storage-related work. Where practical, site-specific assessments will be undertaken to identify access issues, parking arrangements, stairways, lifts, confined spaces and any client-specific hazards. The findings of these assessments will inform our planning, staffing levels, choice of equipment and method statements to ensure that risks are reduced so far as is reasonably practicable.
Manual handling is a key element of removal work and is a major focus of our safety controls. We will minimise manual lifting by using appropriate handling aids, such as sack trucks, furniture dollies, moving straps, ramps and other equipment suited to the task. Staff will be trained in safe lifting techniques, team handling procedures and how to recognise loads or situations that require mechanical assistance or additional personnel. Loads will be assessed for weight, shape, stability and route before being moved, and work will be organised to prevent excessive twisting, reaching or carrying over long distances.
Our vehicles are central to our moving services and must be operated safely at all times. Drivers will be competent and appropriately licensed, follow road traffic laws and drive in a manner that protects passengers, pedestrians and other road users. Vehicles will be maintained and inspected regularly to ensure they are roadworthy and suitable for carrying furniture and belongings securely. Loads will be packed and restrained to prevent shifting during transit and to allow safe unloading at the destination.
When working in homes, offices or other premises, our crews will respect the property and the safety of occupants and visitors. We will maintain clear walkways, manage trip hazards such as packing materials and tools, and, where necessary, use warning signs or temporary barriers. Particular care will be taken when manoeuvring large or awkward items through doorways, on staircases or in shared access areas to avoid injury or damage. Where lifts are used, we will observe capacity limits and operate them safely.
Tower Hill Removals will provide employees with appropriate health and safety training relevant to their roles, including induction training, manual handling, safe use of equipment, vehicle safety and incident reporting. Refresher training will be provided as required, and additional guidance will be given when new equipment, procedures or types of work are introduced. Supervisors and team leaders will monitor working practices on site, address unsafe behaviour and support staff in applying this policy.
We recognise that removal work can be physically demanding. Employees are expected to present themselves fit for duty, and must not work under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that impairs their ability to work safely. Adequate breaks, hydration and access to welfare facilities will be provided as far as is reasonably practicable within the constraints of each job. Any health concerns that may affect an employee’s capacity to perform removal tasks safely should be reported so that appropriate adjustments can be considered.
Where contractors or subcontractors are engaged to support our services, we will seek to ensure that they are competent, aware of our health and safety expectations and work in a way that is consistent with this policy. We will coordinate activities with other parties present at client sites to avoid conflicts, overlapping risks or unsafe working arrangements.
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly to management, who will ensure that they are recorded, investigated and, where necessary, notified to the relevant authorities. Investigation findings will be used to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. We encourage open reporting and will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who raises genuine safety concerns.
This Health and Safety policy is a living document. It will be reviewed regularly, and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, equipment, locations or applicable legislation. Feedback from employees, clients and other stakeholders will be considered in order to improve our safety performance. Tower Hill Removals is committed to continually enhancing the way we protect people and property while providing professional and reliable removal services throughout our operating area.
